One of our project aims is to ensure local people in greatest need avoid disadvantage due to a lack of knowledge of the legal system.

Our social policy work identifies common issues and problems and tackles them on a national and a local level.

With the expertise and support of the Barking and Dagenham Advice Plus partnership and wider Advice for Life forum members, the project will continuously develop and deliver social policy action across Barking and Dagenham.

Social policy primarily refers to guidelines, principles, legislation and activities that affect the living conditions conducive to human welfare.

The Citizens Advice service performs a key role in speaking up for clients, raising issues brought into Bureau, contributing to public debate, liaising with policymakers, regulators, Members of Parliament and service providers; thereby informing and influencing legislation.

Policy and campaign work covers a huge range of issues including consumer, debt, housing, benefits, immigration, employment, legal matters and health.

Our Advice for Life Forum members and the ASTF partnership participate in a range of forums, panels and meetings coordinated by statutory services.
