Communities Can is a programme funded by the Big Lottery, which is aiming to test out a new approach towards providing developmental support to small, informal community groups and projects. In partnership with Barking & Dagenham CVS, we are aiming to find out about the groups and activities that are happening locally and to get in touch with them to see if they’d like to receive some support. If they are interested, we will guide them through a simple process to understand what kind of support would be helpful to them, and then match them with a local organisation that can deliver that support (at no cost to the group themselves). This programme is focussed on groups who have an annual income of less than £10,000 (you may be asked to provide evidence of project income) and who are doing things that benefit the local community. Examples of the kind of support that can be provided includes:

Finding out how to apply for funding
Support with registering as a charity or developing your governance structures
Developing a strategic plan for your project
Helping you to create a website or marketing strategy

Whether your group has big plans to grow and develop, or is committed to staying small and beautiful, we’ll aim to help you achieve that. The support will be provided in the form of a voucher for up to £2,500 and cannot be exchanged for cash. For more information, please visit www.communitiescan.org
